Bangalore, May 23: The South-West monsoon is expected to hit Karnataka by June 1, three days after it hits the Kerala coast on May 29, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

The South-West monsoons traditionally comes to Karnataka on June 5-6.

This forecast is based on the statistical model prepared by the Indian Meteorological Department.

Speaking to this website's newspaper, Bangalore Meteorological Centre Director incharge, Dr A Muthachami said, these early showers were a normal phenomena and had occurred many a times in the past.

"Early or delayed SWM monsoon showers is a normal pattern. This however would have no impact on the normal rainfall which the state and the nation will experience.

However it is very early to forecast the amount of rainfall which the state will experience. This has no impact on the pre-monsoon showers which the City has been presently experiencing. The present pre-monsoon showers are likely to continue for the next couple of days," added Muthachami.

The normal average rainfall for the state is expected to be around 805 mm and for India it is expected to be around 88 cm (880 mm).

The City Meteorological Centre on Wednesday recorded 18.6 mm rainfall, while the Airport Meteorological Centre recorded 3.4 mm.

On Tuesday night, 2.3 mm and 1.6 mm rainfall was recorded at the City and Airport Meteorological centre respectively.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday recorded two tree-fall incidents, one in HMT Layout, Mathikeri, and the other in Nandini Layout. No injuries were reported. No power cut or water logging was reported in the City.
