Mangaluru: Solidarity of Immaculate Conception celebrates Family Day

Mangaluru, Aug 29: Sodality of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Codialbail, on Sunday, August 27, celebrated Family Day.

The day began with a Eucharistic celebration at St Aloysius College chapel. A stage programme was organised at the auditorium.

Chief guest Fr Stanislaus D’Souza, provincial, Karnataka Jesuit Province, Bengaluru, left the congregation spell bound with five cardinal principles for a successful family - time sense, patience, hospitality, spirituality and satisfaction. "If these exist the family would be successful. Family is the basic unit of a church. By the family, our society is developed," he said.


    


















Fr Dionysius Vaz, rector, St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru, and the ecclesiastical vice assistant of the sodality, in his message, said, "Children and youngsters in a family should actively get involved in all activities. President Melville Pinto welcomed the gathering.  Secretary Ligoury Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. Sushil Noronha, convenor, social and cultural committee of the sodality were present on the dais.

Spouses of nine deceased solidarity members were the special invitees for the function. Each was presented with a rose and a compliment. Wenceslaus Pais, cantor to the sodality for over 40 years, and Dr Manuel Tauro who was conferred a doctorate in May 2017 by Mangalore University for his thesis were felicitated on occasion.

They were adorned with a shawl, garland and compliment each.

Two children of the members Henry D’Souza and Claritus Reuben D’Souza were honoured with a gift each for their academic excellence.

Singing competitions were held for member couples and their children separately. The members entertained the audience with songs and a short skit. Callista Nikitha D'Souza performed the prayer dance.  Seema Tauro compered the programme.
