Kundapur, Aug 31: Heated discussions took place between members of the ruling party and the opposition regarding illegal petty shops which are not removed despite court order, at the meeting of municipal council on Wednesday, August 30.

Member Sathish Shetty drew the attention of the members and urged to get the shops removed. Member Sridhar Serugar opposing it said that several new buildings have come up without following rules and regulations in the council limits. “Those also should be removed. The shops that are removed now should be provided alternative arrangements like they did after removing shops near Shastri circle,” he said. Member Prabhaker Kodi and Chandra Ameen supported his stand. Vice-president Rajesh Kaveri and member Raviraj Kharvi urged the shops to be removed soon as there are orders from the court.

President speaking on the matter said that court orders will be followed across party lines.

Handing over PWD land to municipal council

Old buildings on the land belonging to PWD near Shastri circle are about to fall. The meeting discussed about handing over the land to the municipal council. “Old buildings there are about to collapse. The deputy commissioner has been briefed regarding demolishing them and constructing an auditorium in the place. If the council gets the land in the heart of the city, it will be useful for development works,” said the chief official.

Member Pushpa Shet said that it will be like snatching land from PWD. “It may lead to friction between the municipal council and the department,” she said. “The deputy commissioner has come to know that there is a vacant land here. If the council gets it, it will be a gain,” said chief official.

Member Raviraj Kharvi said that it is better to give up plans to build an auditorium and construct a first grade college in the place. Member Shivaram Putran said that it is better to reserve the land for the construction of an auditorium. Member Vijay S Poojary said that the land should be first handed over to the council and discussions about it can be held later. Vittal Kunder and Udaya Mendon joined their voices.

Anganwadi building repairs urged

“Anganwadi building in Kodi needs repairs. It has not been repaired despite requests,” said member Sandeep Poojary expressing anguish. The president said that the repair work will be taken up soon.

President Vasanthi Saranga presided over the meeting. Vice-president Rajesh Kaveri, local committee president Cicily Kotian and chief official Gopalakrishna Shetty were present.
