Udupi: Idol of Lord Ganesha immersed in Mahalingeshwar temple lake

Udupi, Sep 1: The Idol of Lord Ganesha, on Thursday September 1, installed by the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti, Brahmavar, was taken for immersion in a grand procession here after seven days of prayer and worship.

This is the the 35th year of Ganeshotsava celebrations by the samithi.

The procession started from the Government Primary School, Brahmavar and made its way past the old bus stand, main service bus stand, NH 66, Akashavani and culminated at the Mahalingeshwar temple lake.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A colourful display of fireworks at Gandhi Maidan during the procession enthralled the crowds.
 
Thousands of devotees joined in the procession and witnessed the immersion of the deity’s idol in the temple lake.
 
Vaman Pai of 'Kuniyo Ganapa' was the special attraction of the programme. On the occasion, he was felicitated by the committee members for his service for the last 35 years.

Solo and group competitions were held. Competition for Pili Vesha participants was also held. A group from Chanthar displayed the vesha for a cause - to build a house for an economically underprevileged family in Chanthar Village. This was appreaciated by the devotees.

Many took part in various competitions held during the course of the celebrations. Pili Vesha performance enthralled the crowd with their superb acrobatic skills.
