Bangalore: Yeddyurappa Formally Elected BJP Legislature Party Leader

BANGALORE, May 26: BJP Chief Ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa was on Monday formally elected legislature party leader paving the way for him to stake claim to form the government.

Yeddyurappa will meet Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Tuesday to stake claim for government formation, party sources said.

Giving boost to its efforts to cobble up majority, two independents, Goolihatti Shekhar and Shivaraj Thangadi, supporting BJP, attended the legislature party meeting in which the saffron party MLAs and top leaders were present.

The party has stepped up efforts to lure some more independents, the sources said. The party was confident of reaching the magic figure of 113 in the 224-member assembly, the sources said.

BJP had won 110 seats in the Assembly elections.
