Puttur, Sep 4: In an accident which happened at Piligoodu in Kaniyoor village within Uppinangady police station limits in the taluk on Sunday September 3, the rider of the scooter died on the spot, while the woman riding the pillion suffered serious  injuries.

The deceased was Sridhar Moolya (58), resident of Moojoor Mangalakallu in Karkala taluk. Sriraksha (20), daughter of Sridhar's brother, Srinivas, sustained critical  injuries. She is being treated in a private hospital in Mangaluru.

Sridhar and Sriraksha were going to Uppinangady to attend 'Mehndi' programme related to the marriage of a relative there slated to be held on September 4. Other family members were going to the same programme by a private bus from Karkala. At the road bend at Piligoodu near Kuppetti, a pickup truck coming from the direction of Uppinangady hit the two-wheeler. Sridhar, who suffered deep injuries to his head in the accident, died on the spot. Sriraksha suffered critical  injuries to her legs and other parts of the body.

Sridhar Moolya was the maternal uncle of the bridegroom, a flower vendor from Uppinangady. A pall of gloom descended on the venue of the marriage after receiving the news of the accident. The  marriage, scheduled to be held on Monday, stands postponed.
