• Mangalore-Tirupati Rajahamsa service to be launched
• Volvo bus will ply between Mangalore and Hyderabad

Mangalore, May 29: The Mangalore Division of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will introduce seven services, including a Volvo service between Mangalore and Hyderabad, in the first week of June.

The division would ply a Volvo service from Mangalore to Hyderabad via Bangalore for the first time, P. B. Karumbaiah, Senior Divisional Controller, KSRTC, Mangalore division, told The Hindu. It would leave Mangalore at 1 p.m. and reach Hyderabad at 6 a.m. and vice-versa.

A Volvo service would also be introduced between Mangalore and Chennai. It would be in addition to the existing Volvo service between Mangalore and Chennai. The new bus would leave from Mangalore at 11.30 a.m. and reach Chennai at 5 a.m. In the return journey, it will leave Chennai in the noon and reach Mangalore at 6 a.m.

Mr. Karumbaiah said that two more day Volvo services would be introduced from Mangalore to Mysore. One bus would depart at 7.45 a.m. and the other at 2.15 p.m. There was only one day Volvo service from the city to Mysore, he said.

A Rajahamsa service would be introduced between Mangalore and Tirupati. An express bus service would be introduced between Kundapur and Tirupati via Byndoor and Shimoga, he said. A Rajahamsa service would be introduced from Puttur to Putaparthi in Andhra Pradesh via Bangalore and Chikballapur.

The timings of these services were being finalised, Mr. Karumbaiah said. The dates to launch the seven new services would also be finalised. All of them would be launched in the first week of June, he said.

After the Shiradi Ghat on the Mangalore-Bangalore national highway was closed for heavy traffic owing to repair work in October 2007, the division had incurred an additional cost of approximately Rs. 2 crore for plying its buses between Mangalore and Bangalore via Mysore.
