Puttur, Sep 8: It is reliably learnt that Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee has decided to replace the president of block Congress here. An official statement in this connection is expected to be made today.

As per information received, block Congress president, Fazal Rahim, is being shown the door. Former taluk panchayat president, Muhammed Badagannur, has been chosen as Rahim's successor. Both Muhammed Badagannur and Fazal Rahim have said that they have not received any official communique in this regard from the party.

MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, confirmed that there is a proposal to change the block Congress president, but added that she does not now when the district Congress will officially make the change.

Fazal Rahim had been made block Congress president three years back, after a prolonged term of Kavu Hemanath Shetty as block Congress president for a very long period. This being an election year, new faces are being given block and district presidentships, and recently, Harish Kumar had been appointed as district Congress president. The district Congress committee wants to bring new faces in all blocks as per the instructions received from the state committee, it is learnt.

Sources say that there is a proposal to drop Vittal Uppinangady block president, Praveen Chandra Alva, who has been in the post since the last six years. Muraleedhar Rai is being brought in his place, sources said, adding that an official announcement about this change will be most probably made on Saturday.

In the meanwhile, city block congress president here, Sutrabettu Jagannath Rai, has decided to resign from his post to enable the party to form the city block Congress committee afresh with new faces. He said he has decided to resign on his own, and no one has demanded it. He confirmed that he will continue as an active worker of the party.
