Daijiworld Media Network - Hassan (SP)

Hassan, Sep 11: Two children who had accompanied the Ganesha idol immersion ceremony in Bananakere village near Nuggehalli in the district ventured into water to facilitate immersion of the idol. But they lost their balance and drowned at around 11.30 am on Sunday September 10.

The unfortunate children have been identified as Rahul (16), son of Tyagaraju from Bananakere in Nuggehalli revenue division, and Darshan (15), son of Manju Shetty.

These boys had accompanied the Ganesha idol immersion procession of their village. Because of recent rains, water bodies in the village were filled with water upto the brim. They could not swim in deep water and therefore lost their lives although the locals tried their best to save the children but in vain.

Local MLA, C N Balakrishna, visited the family of the victims and condoled the deaths. He also tried to assuage their feelings by speaking words of encouragement.
