Kundapur, Oct 9: "Many parties have been trying to project BJP as a party that is opposed to backward classes. But BJP has been strongly supportive of backward classes and minorities. Because of the fact that these classes of people staunchly supported BJP in the assembly elections held in some states recently, the party could rise to power there. The party has identified many leaders from backward classes and minorities like Abdul Kalam and Ram Nath Kovind and given them the highest positions in the country. Therefore, minorities and backward classes will support BJP in the coming election and bring BJP back to power in the state," said former minister, Kumar Bangarappa.

He was speaking after inaugurating celebrations connected with 163rd birth anniversary of Brahmasri Narayanaguru at a function organized at Annappayya hall, Trasi. The programme was organized under the aegis of Byndore Mandal BJP backward classes Morcha on Sunday October 8.

"Congress party is on its down-slide in the country. The party is facing several problems including that of leadership. Therefore, it has lost power in several states. The trust people reposed in Congress in the past has been belied. Congress has been indulging in breaking community and religion and sowing seeds of hatred among the people with an eye on electoral benefits. Therefore, many leaders from Congress and other parties have been joining the BJP in order to strengthen that party. BJP is very strong in the state, and state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, will be undertaking tour of all the 224 assembly constituencies in the state with the aim of installing an independent, strong BJP government in the state again. The national leadership has given the target of getting 150 seats in the state. To enable the party to reach this figure, people from all classes should forget their differences like caste, religion and community affiliation and wholeheartedly support BJP," he advised.

Kota Srinvias Poojary, who was the chief guest of the function, said that Narayana Guru never confined himself to a specific caste, religion or party. "BJP has been making efforts to implement the message of Narayana Guru in the state. Programmes are being held in all districts of the state towards this end. Congress party, which is opposing programmes being held by BJP in honour of Narayana Guru, should organize similar programmes on its own if it has the will power to do so," he challenged.

Poojary noted that even after spending about Rs 700 crore on Varahi project, the government has been unable to solve drinking water problem in the district. Blaming Congress of indulging in politics on the issue of Varahi river water, he demanded that the water from Varahi should be provided to all the villages to mitigate water woes. He criticized the state government for spending Rs 200 crore on caste census and then failing to release the census report. He sought clarification from the minister and chief minister on the issue and demanded for the release of this report immediately.

He said that about 12,000 people from this taluk are yet to get title deeds from the government, while some have got them on account of active follow up by BJP. He demanded the government to issue title deeds to everyone within a month failing which he said, BJP government will begin the task of issuing title deeds etc to everyone. He hailed Kumar Bangarappa for strenghtening the prospects of BJP in this Byndoor constituency through this convention and expressed confidence that Byndoor constituency will elect a BJP legislator again.

President of Byndoor BJP backward classes Morcha, Ganesh Poojary Kenchanuru, presided. Udupi district BJP president, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, BJP state executive member, B M Sukumar Shetty, former MLA, K Laxminarayana, backward classes Morcha state vice president, Kiran Kumar etc addressed the gathering.

16 persons with excellence in various fields were honoured on the occasion.

Udupi district backward Morcha president, Rajesh Kaveri, district general secretary, Yashpal Suvarna, president of women's Morcha, Priyadarshini, zilla panchayat members, Shankar Poojary, Shobha G Putran and Babu Shetty, taluk panchayat member, Narayan K Gujjady, party leaders like Santosh Jathan, Deepak Kumar Shetty, Balachandra Bhat, Ravi Ganiga Mallari, Shekhar Devadiga, Raghavendra Nampu and many others were present.

Byndoor block BJP president, Sadananda Uppinakudru, delivered the introductory address. Anita R K introduced the dignitaries chosen for felicitation. Anand Kharvi Uppunda, who compered the progamme, proposed the vote of thanks.
