Riyadh: Mangalorean Community to Kick off 'Direct Flight' Campaign

Riyadh: Mangalorean Community to Kick off 'Direct Flight' Campaign

Media Release

Riyadh, Jun 12: A large number of NRIs from the coastal and Western Ghats region of Karnataka, and North Kerala, are engaged in business or employed in Saudi Arabia. Since the commencement of the International Airport at Bajpe, it is a dream of thousands of NRIs who reside in Saudi Arabia to fly directly from Riyadh to their home town Mangalore.

Even  though there is a  huge population of Mangalorean expatriates living in Riyadh, it is unfortunate that   there is no common platform for Mangaloreans  to represent their  community.  With this agenda in mind it is decided to start a separate  organization which will represent every community and group and collectively  fulfill  goals.

Mangalorean community members are planning to meet at Khayyam Restaurant – Hail Wazarat (Hara) Riyadh. Between  4pm and  6 pm on Jun 20, 2008

The  primary agenda will be:

To name for the Organization
Select  office bearers
Plan  for  Direct Flight Campaign
Other Welfare Schemes

Community members have urged all residents  to rise above  caste, language and creed  and  join hands in this campaign to make the Riyadh –Mangalore direct flight possible.

If aircrafts could fly from Dubai & Muscat to Mangalore, what’s really preventing it to take off from Riyadh? I think there may be Bus Maphias & Domestic Airlines lords behind it who are really engaged in trend of robbing passengers with unaffordable travel and luggage fares fear the outcome may lead give way their business. Let’s wish the new association formed in this row may become success converting our long term dream into reality

its high time that there are direct flights to mangalore. besides, its pointless to fly till banalore and take another flight to mangalore - waste of time, fuel and money. also, given the congestion in bangalore - it's better that the flights start and end at mangalore. - for passengers who live in and around mangalore. its absolutely pointless given the situation of new bangalore airport - the long painful travel to and fro to the new airport. with more planes coming to mangalore directly , the infrastructure in mangalore will improve too. better facilities across the country will benefit everyone. spread of wealth is a must, and should not be concetrated in only one capital city!

Although I left Riyadh after being there for more than two decades, in order to migrate to Canada, I always wished to fly to my native town, Mangalore directly from Riyadh and vice versa, instead of going through the hassels of flying to Bombay, spend there overnight or wait for the connecting flight, not to mention the unbearable custom delays and problems we had earlier.

Direct flight to Mangalore is long awaited and I wish the new group that is being formed to fight for the cause of the Mangaloreans, all the success. Although my chances of flying from Mangalore to Saudi on a direct flight is minimal, I am sure the dream of Gulf-Mangaloreans having direct flight to Mangalore would come true and all the Mangaloreans and Norht keralites would enjoy there fight.

Air India has asked me the potential of Dammam and Riyadh a month back and have asked to give atleast 2 flights per week. so I am sure just a matter of time Saudi people are going to get their direct flight. I completely agree with the comments made by all the above people, especially Dr Anthony Pais regarding to the flights from Dammam to Mangalore (and also Bangalore). One more important thing to note is because of the weekly holidays on Thursday and Friday, the flights from Dammam should be scheduled after 8:00 pm on Wednesday(after working hours), and a return trip from Mangalore/Bangalore should be on Friday afternoon time (instead of early morning in India (which is incovenient).

Jeddah/Makkah/Madina are Holy place for Muslims and a huge crowd can be attracted for Haj and Umra more over there are many Mangaloreans in this part of Saudi(Jeddah). In Jeddah also we have started similar organization for the same purpose, let us fight together.
