Daijworld Media Network - Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Nov 7: "Society will have justice only when corruption is completely exterminated," said Venkatesh Naik, judge of district and sessions court, at the anti-corruption awareness week programme, organized by the district administration with district police, district crime vigilance committee, district legal services authority and Udupi bar association.

This programme was sponsored by Central Vigilance Commission under the theme 'My Mission Corruption Free India' from October 30 to November 4 all over the country.

Venkatesh also said that corruption is multifaceted and there are legal provisions to reduce the same. He urged each and every one to be part of this movement and emphasized the importance of making citizens aware of the legal ramifications and retribution that is made available for the corrupt individuals.

Speaking on the occasion, Priyanka Mary Francis, deputy commissioner said, "Offering and receiving bribe are both against the law. By saying no to corruption people can bring about changes in society. Digitalization and programmes like 'sakala' have brought down corruption to a great extent."

Dr Sanjeev Patil, superintendent of police said that people should bring corruption-related issues to the notice of the police vigilance committee against corruption. "Corruption is not inborn in an individual but acquired later in life due to the circumstances and loopholes in the system," he added.

Jayashree, social activist, said that people should be made aware of the formal procedures to curtail corruption among public departments and officials.
