Mangaluru Nov 9: Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said on Thursday, November 9 that Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) is a very important area and sand mining issue in the district will be brought under control.

Addressing media here he said, “As per discussion in the committee meeting, we have made GPS and colour coding compulsory for boats so that they can be easily identified. Legal and illegal boats can be made out. In a short term tender, this would be implemented soon. We have permitted tradition people to extract sand based upon their three years of documents. As many as 40 people have been permitted to extract sand and nearly 120 people’s permit is still pending who have documents of 2 years.”

Additional deputy commissioner Kumar said,"Tipu Jayanthi will be organised at zilla panchayat on November 10. District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the programme and thinker writer Aravind Chokkady will deliver the keynote address on Tipu Sultan.

The names of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLC Ganesh Karnik have been excluded from the invitation as they gave in writing to the district administration to exclude their names from the invitation.

Commissioner T R Suresh said, "Procession has been restricted for Tipu Jayanthi. No other programme has been organised on account of Tipu Jayanthi in the city other than the programme at zilla panchayat. We have not given permission for any other programme in the city.”

He also said, “Security has been tightened. About 2,000 police personnel have been deployed. In addition, 13 platoons of KSRP, 4 KSRP and 130 RAF personnels will be deployed. Police have collected security bonds from 80 communal goons.”
