Mandya, Nov 28: A person who tried to go down the precipice accompanying Gaganahukki falls in Malavalli taluk in the district, slipped and reached close to the bottom of the waterfall. Unnoticed, with a fractured leg, he survived there for two and a half days before being lucky to be rescued on Monday November 27.

Khader Pasha from Kadirenahalli in Bengaluru had visited the waterfall on Saturday. He came here alone by bus. Seeing that three other youngsters had taken up the adventure of going down the cliff, Pasha tried to copy them. The cliff is 330 deep. After reaching a depth of 300 feet, Pasha lost his hold and suddenly slipped and fell down 30 feet to almost the bottom of the waterfall. His leg was fractured and he was unable to move as he had got directly deposited onto a rock.

Pasha survived the ordeal by drinking water and coping with the fear of animals and reptiles. Due to the awkward angle with which he fell, no tourist noticed him for two days, although he repeatedly waved his clothes and shouted for help. On Monday, as he vigorously waved his red jerkin and shouted for help, someone above him who was clicking photographs saw something waving below. On zooming his lens he found that a man was seeking help. He then brought this to the notice of the police.

The police hired a few local experts who knew the terrain well. They went down the cliff and brought the youth up on their shoulders. The injured man was then admitted into Malavalli taluk government hospital. For Pasha this was like a rebirth.
