Belagavi, Dec 2 : A woman, who was tortured by her relatives, was rescued by police on Saturday at Athani near here. Her relatives believed that she was possessed with ‘evil spirits’.

The victim is 21-year-old Yellavva Nagappa Bisukalvaddar, a tribal woman. In fact she was from suffering from mental illness.

Yellavva, whose hands were tied with a rope, was being dragged to a black magician on Jat Road at Athani to exorcise her of the 'evil sprits'.

Police admitted Yellavva to a hospital subsequently. Later she was shifted to the district hospital in Belagavi for treatment.

Cant believe that such believs still exists.Main reason is here mostly people are not educated.we see such things are happening in areas where people are not educated, stick to old believes ,think a sickness is due to some devils,or a dead person to do etc.I remember in our village ,a lady was delivering every year, she used to have problems during delivery some convulsions ,and speak delirious things as if about her dead mother in law was coming to her body and speaking.:Later I came to know about problems that they were as due to hgh blood pressure during pregnency not treated and convulsions were as preeclampsia ,that is during labour pains take place.Villagers were telling that her dead motherin law was coming over her and troubling ,want to take her.so it is.Hope this poor girl will recover soon ,and live elsewhere als her relatives.
