Mumbai, Jul 27: On Saturday, the Metrological department recorded around 133.2 millimeter rainfall in Colaba, while around 77.4 millimeter rainfall was recorded in Santacruz through the day. CV Badram, deputy director general, regional MET department says, “The dry spell in the city is over. All places in the city had recorded over seven centimeter rainfall.”
Badram adds that the sudden showers have also brought relief to other districts in Maharashtra, with the Marathwada district and Vidharbha, which received good rainfall for the last few days. Forecasts show that the spells of rain will continue with heavy to very heavy rains for the next 48 hours.
The water levels in dams have increased, too. Madhukar Kamble, Chief Hydrolic engineer, BMC, says, “Most of the small dams have begun overflowing, with the Tulsi Lake around five feet short of overflowing. Vaitarna dam is overflowing, too.”
Most trains on the Central line delayed by over 30 minutes while trains on the Western line were delayed for 20-30 minutes. But Srinivas Mudgerikar, Chief PRO of the Central Railways denied the dela. “The trains on the Central Railway were delayed due to problems on the overhead wire,” he said
