Mangaluru: Dr Edmond Fernandes submits US Legislative Fellowship recommendation

Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 8: Dr Edmond Fernandes, CEO, CHD Group was selected as a Legislative Fellow of the US State Department in 2017 and he was among the 12 to represent India in America for this prestigious fellowship. He was the only one from Karnataka State.

Drawing inspiration through the cross cultural learning and dialogue while in the US, Dr. Edmond made an 8 point recommendation which is placed on public domain to all stakeholders and citizens of India. He also submitted the same to Ramalinga Reddy, home minister of Karnataka.

He has advocated to set up the Chief Ministerial Fellowships at the state level and Presidential Fellowship at the central level to encourage mid-career professionals from all the states in India which will expose them to understanding of governance systems at large. After having visited the grave site of late US President, John F Kennedy and the Arlington Cemetery, the idea to have a memorial for our defenders came up and it must be set up in every district of the country.

The recommendation goes on to speak about investing in public spaces and supporting NGOs in a big way. Dr Edmond also mentions about bringing value to central and state universities, creating a patient database and improving documentation at healthcare units.

Part of the recommendation focused on creating a case for homeland security and also the need to respect competence and staff government appointments on merit rather than political loyalties.

Good job, Dr. Edmond. Health related topics are extremely sensitive in America where Health Budget tops Number Three after Defense and Education. Best of Luck.
