Lingayat religion row: HC refuses to grant stay

Bengaluru Mar 10 (DHNS): The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed the Union and state governments and the national and state minorities commissions to file their statement of objections in a petition related to separate religion tag for the Lingayat faith.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Sunil Dutt Yadav was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the authority of the Karnataka State Minorities Commission to constitute an expert panel on the issue. The bench also refused to stay the proceedings of the state government in this regard. The court adjourned the matter.
