Mangalore: Various Organizations Extend Support to All-India Bundh on Aug 20

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (GA)

Mangalore, Aug 19: Normal life is expected to be paralyzed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Wednesday Aug 20 as a number of organizations have extended their support to All-India bundh call given by CPI against the anti-labour and anti-people policies of the UPA government.

Various labour organizations such as CITU, AITUC, Dakshina Kannada unit of State Construction Workers' Association, Motor Transport and Engineering Workers' Union, Coordinating committee of district Auto Rickshaw Drivers' Associations,  Bunder Labourers' Union etc have extended their support to day-long bundh.

However Bhartiy Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has instructed its members not to take part in the bundh. BMS district president K Vishwanath Shetty has asked the members to attend their work as usual.

On the other hand DYFI district unit has decided to extend its support to the day-long bundh. The district unit has said that it will support the bundh in protest against the privatization of drinking water facility. The association has also demanded that that hike in water price must be lifted at the earliest.

In Udupi:

Insurance Workers' Union too has joined the bandwagon and given call for day-long bundh in the district on Wednesday August 19 in protest against the Union government's decision to raise foreign investment in insurance sector and privatization of pension, said president of the union U Gurudutt in a press release. The district unit of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti led by Jayan Malpe too has extended its support to the day-long bundh.

Even the ban officers and workers will extend their support to the bundh call and will participate in the strike, said district Bank Workers' Union general secretary U Shivaray. A rally will be taken out from LIC office at Ajjarkad to Corporation bank zonal office, he added.

No Bus Bundh

However, both Canara Bus Owners' Association and Udupi City Bus Owners' Associations have decided to stay away from bundh. Accordingly, buses will not go off the roads in both the districts said Rajavarmna Ballal, president of Canara Bus Owners' Association and Rajesh Shetty, president of Udupi City Bus Owners' Association and Karavali Bus Workers' Union president Vijaykumar.

Even the State government workers union has decided not to extend its support to bundh call given by CPI. Life Insurance Corporation workers' Association general secretary Manohar Veigas has said that their association will not support the bundh call given by CPI.

I think bandh is not solving the problem!. . right? What are these groups mean by Anti Labour policy and Anti public policy of the UPA government?. Are they referring to price hike, inflation etc..If yes, then they should understand that this cannot be brought down in a day or two by these bundh's.

These are global peinomenon due to hike in Oil prices and they are all effecting in our lives in the form of these prices hikes, resulting in inflation. Why do we blame the Government for this??? It is not giving any comfort to the Govt either..My dear public, please wake up and think Straight, be practicle.

It is unfortunate that communists have targetted Karnataka - after destroying Kerala and West Bengal. Most developmental sectors in these two states have been taken to ransom by the Communists for their selfish interests.

Communists themselves will niether work nor allow others to work. In the bargain, common man/woman is the loser - losing their daily wages and suffering heavy losses they have no way of making up for their losses. CPI -with their big mouths- only harps on social issues, but does nothing to alleviate their burden instead, add to their woes. All the thinking and socially concerned citizens should condemn this forced bundhs unequivocally.

I have a simple question, I wish the Comrades answer. 'Did Anti-labour Anti-people policy of UPA, which is the reason for Bund call, errupted over night? Can not be. Any success or failure of Government policy has history.

If so, when these dear Comrades were part of UPA history, why they have not tried to correct it? I just say, dear, Comrades,’ you can fool all the people some of the time, some of the people all the time, but definitely not, all the people all the time. Let’s say a big NO to these tactics.

Clever and intelligent people of Mangalore, please allow to ply buses on Mangalore roads, just to save the lives of Mangaloreans. Recollect, recent bus bundh claimed many lives at Gurpur. Think twice, before supporting such bundhs, and let poor people live.

Why not people concentrate on the growth of the economy, Instead of concentrating on creating problems for normal people. I left a metropolitan city as I always thought that Mangalore is a place full of matured and sensible people. BUT I FEEL I WAS NOT COMPLETELY CORRECT.

Its really SAD to see ,the people from South Kanara (Mangalore/Udupi) who are supposed to be well educated and matured people in the is getting influenced by so called Communist people. To the people of SK, please look at states like Kerala, West Bengal or other Communist ruled states to what state they have brought down the economy and devlopment.

Now they are eying Karnantaka & the sad news in Mangalore is the gateway for them as in whole of our state we can hear them only in Mangalore or Udupi now that too.

Wake up guys, before the rabies spreads kick them out & stop these from enetering our land. To See Mangalore or Udupi as next big Metroplitan like Bangalore in next 5 years or another Nadhigram or Bihar, its in your hands( of course even ours as even am a Mangalorean).

South kanara district in Karnataka is slowly turning to be a mini Kerala. The frequency of Bundh and other disturbances have increased. This simply means that this place will not be liked by people who would like to invest in any sort of industry or business. God Save Mangalore!!!!!

It's a pity thse different unions are calling for a bundh protesting against a matter which could be sorted in a better way than closing down work for a day. Are you people blind that you cant see the pathetic condition of the roads in the city and protest against the concerned authorities for not taking steps to attend to the road repair?

What more would a common man want than to have better roads and amenities? The basic infrasturcture has gone to the dogs and such organisations must protest and call for bundhs or some such thing which will waken up the authorities concerned. Think and act!

Looks like our people have a habit of jumping in to conclusions as and when there is a thrust for bandh by certain groups/organization. We have lost the ability to think if these bundh's are justifiable or not. Just because some political parties push for it, we throw ourselves in to the bundh process. No one thinks, how much of inconvinience these bundh's are causing to the general public.

Because of these bundh's our country is yet to develop and the typical example is West Bengal. We witness atleast 5 bundh's in a month in West Bengal prompted by various parties like CPI, CPM etc to promote their hidden agenda in the name of welfare to the public. And our dear public, mainly people who have lost the ability to think, take part in it without even thinking why they are doing it.

What are these groups mean by Anti Labour policy and Anti public policy of the UPA government?. Are they referring to price hike, inflation etc..If yes, then they should understand that this cannot be brought down in a day or two by these bundh's.
