Moodbidri, May 3: Malati (54), wife of well-known musical instrumentalist, Anni Suvarna, resident of Murkatpalke, Guddeangady in Paladka gram panchayat here was electrocuted at her home on Wednesday May 2. lt is learnt that electric current flew through her body when she came in contact with the switchboard of the washing machine at her home.

It is gathered that Malati had finished the washing of clothes. A little while later, she recollected that she had not switched off the washing machine and so while switching off the power supply to the washing machine she came in contact with the electric current and lost her life.

It is learnt that the tragedy happened at a time when Malati's husband and children, who had taken part in a programme the previous night, were in deep sleep.

It was a terrible tragedy. Such electrical appliances should be properly grounded and fixed to avoid any shock due to fluctuations of electric current which is common here. I feel sorry for the woman who lost her life. May her soul RIP. Condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones.

Very tragic news. May be the extension cable with plug is the reason as it looks like not protected from behind. Actually that type to fix against the wall not to use as portable. More over Mescom shall make it mandatory to install ELCB or RCCB. Until unless make it mandatory, people don’t install it as majority are unaware of benefit of it.

People are reluctant to fix protective devices like ELCB and MCBS and its costing them off their life.Nothing is precious than human life and every precaution to be taken to save it. R.I.P

It's called as RCCB. Residual current circuit breaker. Detects current leakage and trips automatically. This device had been in the Indian market for at least 20 years. Our local electricians don't even know about this device.
