M'lore: Students' Individual Assessment Essential for Future Prospects—Prof Kaveriappa

Mangalore, Sep 8: Student welfare officers appointed by various colleges should take into consideration individual performances when evaluating the extra-curricular activities of students, instead of comapring them with others, opined Prof K M Kaveriappa, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University (MU), on Saturday September 6.

Prof Kaveriappa was speaking after inaugurating the all college students' welfare officers meet of MU, held at the old senate auditorium, on the university campus. It was organized by the directorate of student welfare, Mangalagangotri. He inaugurated the meet in a unique style, with drumbeats.

Students are awarded marks under a credit-based semester in order to lay emphasis on extra-curricular activities that will provide leverage to the student's future. It will give a new lease of life to our 5,000 year-old distinct Tulunadu culture, he added.

Students' fees collected under for extra-curricular activities are being utilized exclusively for the same purpose and to provide basic facilities. Moreover, it has been decided to extend financial assistance to various colleges under MU, in order to encourage extra-curricular activities in their colleges. Accordingly, such colleges are already listed for aid to give a fillip to theater, literature, dance, and arts, he emphasized.

Alvas Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, in his presidential address, said that it's essential for students to take an interest in the extra-curricular activities of their respective colleges. Father Muller Medical College Hospital administrative officer Fr Dennis D'Sa was the chief guest on the occasion.
