Bengaluru, May 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment to Rahul Gandhi to learn patriotism from dogs has drawn severe backlash from twitteratis.
"I want to tell all those who don't like patriotism, don't learn if you don't want to learn from others, your own ancestors, or even from the Congress of Mahatma Gandhi. But at least learn from my Mudhol dogs of Bagalkot. The Mudhol dogs of this very Bagalkot are now serving the nation in the form of a battalion,” Modi told an election rally at Bagalkot in north Karnataka on Monday.
"I know that their (Congress') arrogance has reached cloud seven. The people of the country have negated them, but they are still not ready to come on ground. So I don't expect them to even learn anything from Mudhol Dogs," he added.
Soon after the comments made headlines, many took to twitter to criticize the PM and some also called it ‘new low’.
“So this is @PMOIndia's definition of patriotism: the blind obedience of a dog! True patriotism is loving your country, its history, its values & its Constitution, including the right to dissent when these values are trampled by those in power...” hit back MP Shashi Tharoor with a tweet.
“Isn't it ironical that puerile vermin spawned by the tricolour-rejecting, mercy petition-writing, Brit-collaborating Sanghis are trying to misappropriate patriotism!,” tweeted Sanjiv Bhatt IPS.
Film Actor Prakash Raj also did not take Modi’s jibe lightly and told media that it’s people and not dogs that will vote.
