Mangaluru: APD Foundation, Antony Waste Handling Cell holds mock election

Mangaluru, May 12: The citizens of Mangaluru voiced their needs in a mock election activity ‘Vote for Better Tomorrow’ conducted by APD Foundation in collaboration with Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd. The event was organized at the City Centre Mall and near Milagres Bus Stop at Balmatta Road on May 10 and 238 people participated in the activity choosing what the city needs.

Participants were provided with a ballot box and a list of options displayed on a design similar to EVM. The voters had to write their choice number and drop the vote in the ballot box. Among the options provided by the organizers ‘Clean Drinking Water Supply’ for the city got the highest number of votes.

Out of the 238 votes polled, 58 were for Clean Drinking Water Supply and 50 votes were for Energy Efficient Public Transportation for the city. Systematically Scientific Drainage System, Integrated Waste Management Plan and Affordable Health Care System got 48, 46 and 36 votes respectively.

The citizens also were given a chance to write more options if they found it necessary. Better Traffic Control Systems and Measures to Reduce Pollution were among the top suggestions made by them. “The event was organized to raise public awareness of our duty to cast vote during elections. The event marked the end of a month long activities that was to ensure improved turnout voters in the city and local constituencies,” said Abdullah A Rehman, Founder of APD Foundation.
