M'lore: Rich Cultural Heritage Makes Its Presence in Karavali College Campus

Mangalore, Sep 11: The Onam celebrations organized in the premises of Karavali Institute of Technology located at Neermarga in the city on Tuesday September 9, succeeded in mesmerizing the viewers and introducing to them the unique features of the state festival of Kerala, Onam.

The continuous drizzle failed to dampen the spirits of the students, who were out to showcase the dances, music, comedy, cultural richness and traditional costumes of that state. Songs from other states, dances, cultural varieties etc., added a different hue to the festive environment at the college premises. The event was organized by Karavali Group of Colleges.

Colourful Rangolis at the entrance captivated the onlookers. Enactment of the story of Mahabali, Hulivesha, Kathakkali, Mohiniattam, Kalaripayat, Bharatnatyam, folk dances, intricate Chende beats and trumpets interspersed with songs and dances from Manipur, Srilanka etc., created a dreamy world of cultural richness. The students, by voluntarying to wholeheartedly getting involved with the celebrations, added to the mood.

Karavali Group of Educational Institutions president Ganesh S Rao, speaking after inaugurating the programme, noted that Onam is transforming into a festival that is celebrated by people irrespective of their religious, caste and regional allegiances. The students are set to create a fresh environment by displaying their talents on the occasion, he said.

Mangalore University Syndicate member P V Mohan advised Keralite students to learn the local languages and mingle with the local students and people more freely.

Karavli Group of Colleges director Lata G Rao, Venkat Rao, Karavali Institute of Technology principal Prof Akshay Kumar, Nursing Sciences college principal Prof Stella Mary Sagar, College of Education principal Prof B Anand, College of Pharmacy in charge principal Prof Sripati Rao and S K Ashok Kumar of Canara Engineering College were present.

Karvali Group of Colleges administrative officer Prof Balakrishna Gatti welcomed. Students Shilpa and Chitra presented the programme.
