Mangaluru: Heavy rains in coast, to intensify in next 48 hours - one dead

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Jun 9: It has been raining cats and dogs in most parts of coastal Karnataka during the last two days. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain across the state and Bengaluru for the next two days. It has a heavy rainfall warning for the next 48 hours. The information has been passed on to the officers of district administration, the chief secretary and the chief minister so that necessary precautions are taken. The department had issued similar warning on June 3 and June 6.

As per recent report, a woman has lost life due to rains in Shirlal near Venoor in Beltangady taluk. Revathi (50) is the person deceased.

C P Patil, director in charge of IMD, Bengaluru said that the warning of heavy rainfall is issued because of the presence of a low pressure area over the north of the Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensify into a depression within the next 48 hours.

While there is heavy rain in coastal Karnataka, parts of south interior Karnataka are experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall.

Bengaluru received 0.7 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm on Friday, June 8. The rain in HAL airport was 44 mm which is 10 mm higher than the average normal.

It has rained on time in Mangaluru this time. It started with an onslaught a week ago, uprooting trees and causing floods in some places.

Rains these days have been bringing about mixed feelings among people and children. It was an enjoyable period for all about forty years ago.

The high rise buildings and concrete roads in the state have contributed to the chaos during the rains. We hear and read about heavy rain and inundation in many parts of the state and elsewhere in the country during rainy season now.

Rain water does not get absorbed in the ground and remains stagnant in many places. Traffic and other activities get affected.

Oneway we should say thank God the rain has started at right time.We should also take notice that we need rain badly, first because of drinking water ,for cultivation ,and later when rain stops ,to fill the wells and remain for long time.Sadly since our infra structure is not in a good situation, floods, roadblocks, trees uproot, and many problems to transport.what would we have done if no rain was there?sweating, thurst,,and necessity drinking water was more .Now we can be happy about new vegetables, fields with new paddy and fish (If any).let us be happy instead of grumbling.we are used to this .It will be ok in somedays.May the soul of expired lady rest in peace .Heartfelt sympathy to the family.

I am just surprised at the IMD prediction . I just wish their statements were at least half corrrect. As i respond to this article , i see the sun shinning brightly here right in front of my eyes in Kulshekar. I western countries an entire front page is dedicated to weather reporting, with a margin of error of less than 2%. Wondering when will our IMD update their data research

Please don't believe IMD or any news reports. Whatever they predict is always proved wrong even today. There is no heavy or light rain throughout Mangalore. Please somebody ask them stop predicting. If rains comes ok, if not no problem, please stop this nonsense of "Heavy to Heavy rain in Isolated places", ? What is Isolated Places? Aliens living there?
