Mangaluru, Jun 14: "The state government has already made necessary arrangements in rain-affected districts and has released Rs 22 crore as immediate relief,” said R V Deshpande, Revenue Minister here on June 14.
After the evaluation meeting with local MLAs and officers held at DC office on Thursday June 14, he addressed the media and said, "I have issued order to all deputy commissioners to keep Rs 5 crore in hand to meet emergencies. As per the guidelines of the central government, we are calculating the damage across the state. Under the disaster relief fund, we can provide Rs 5 lac to the family of victims who have lost their lives in natural disasters. On the chief minister’s order, we are adding Rs 1 lac more from CM’s relief fund.
"I have already sanctioned Rs 3 crore to the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada as emergency relief. This amount is meant to be spent only during natural calamities. I have also directed the agriculture department to assess the crop loss and submit the report without any delay. Animal husbandry department too is ready with effective measures to tackle any type of diseases. There are enough medicines in department stores in this regard," he added.
"As per the report received from Dakshina Kannada, 7 people have lost their lives due to heavy rains. We have handed over compensation to 3 families and the remaining will be given in a few days. It is learnt that 3 people have suffered injuries in house collapse and I have directed the district administration to pay their hospital bills. A total of 262 transformers are damaged in the district while 4 electric posts have fallen. Nevertheless, the electricity department has succeeded in restoring the power supply. There are no issues related to drinking water and also no reports on major road damages in the district.
He further said. "I have directed the DC to conduct a meeting of officials every week. I have also suggested video conferences with all taluk officers on a weekly basis. The DC and the taluk officers should visit places in their district. There will not be any leave for government officers in rainy season," he said.
U T Khadar, minister, urban development and housing, Sasikanth Senthil, deputy commissioner, Rajesh Naik, MLA, Bharath Shetty, MLA, and Vedavyas Kamath, MLA were present.
