Mangaluru: First in city - Father Muller Hospital introduces bike ambulance

Mangaluru, Jun 28: Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) introduced a new healthcare facility called bike ambulance to provide quick service to the citizens in times of emergency healthcare needs and thereby help save lives.

The facility is first-of-its-kind in Mangaluru, and the great advantage is that, unlike big four-wheeled ambulance vans used for the purpose, these bikes can move very swiftly through heavy traffic.



Objectives

  • To provide immediate possible medical attention through Advanced cardiovascular life support & Basic Life support (ACLS & BLS) trained professionals until an ambulance arrives
  • To attend to patients who are critically ill and require immediate medical attention
  • To ensure that patient is shifted for further treatment as soon as possible

    Dear Readers,
    The Bike ambulance is used for emergency chest pains, cardiac arrest to give Basic Life Support(BLS) and(Advanced Cardio Vascular Life Support) ACLS as immediate management to save young life's and others especially prone for attacks. In Remote areas 4 wheeler ambulance could be delayed due to traffic and road damages. This is good thought from a reputed Institution like Fr Muller's.

    As some of them say you cannot take a patient in this type of ambulance unless he is physically able to walk.Cardiac cases need 4 Wheeler Ambulance to transfer to hospitals.

    If they do, neither the driver nor the patient will reach the hospital alive.

    If I am not mistaken , Khadher introduced this two Wheeler ambulance in Mangalore. For emergencies its ok but if the patient is ambulatory, it is of little use. But to save a patient in critical need , this ambulance will be helpful.Thanks to Fr.Muller Hospital Administration.

    Bike ambulance is a failure in India. Mr Khader introduced it in Karnataka in 2015 and has turned out to be an utter waste.It was also started in Wenlock Hospital.
    The traditional ambulances take long time to reach to the patients. They are mostly used to shift the critically ill to the hospitals and they hardly get first aid by the ambulance staff. Many a times by the time ambulances reach the hospital patients die inside the ambulance. Let Fr Muller give a report of its use after one year.

    Good idea. But.....................
    Useful for doctor or nursing person to reach the patient but may not be ok for other way round cause.
    If the patient is critically ill, how will he / she balance on the bike? Before the bike reaches the hospital if the patient collapses or falls down, who will be responsible? Even in a regular ambulance, the patient needs to be strapped to the stretcher and the stretcher to the walls. In case of this bike, what will be used for strapping.
    Will the rider be able to follow RTO rules? Helmet for patient? Is the bike ambulance approved by RTO? Will it have siren? As per rule, there are some minimum gadgets required in ambulance which are only kept as rules and are usually followed till the ambulance passes RTO approval. For example oxygen mask, I. V. set, etc. Is there any waiver of such requirement in bike?
    Anyway good initiate and all the best.

    Its only on an Emergency services includes ACLS and BLS till the ambulances arrived.

    Every big hospitals should have at least 4 - 5 bike ambulances around the city on designated areas so it will be easy access to the emergency spot with max 3 or 4 digit dial numbers. people will not remember 7 digits at emergency time...

    You say khader started it if so where r those bikes .? It is all election gimmick and nothing else.hope same fate will not be here again.have you seen medical facilities in Maharastra / Gujarath states ? If not visit there and then comment don't bring politics in all comments .
