Udupi: Top district Police Brass Engaged in Tug-of-War

Udupi, Sep 28: The issue of two DySPs functioning in Udupi district had hit the headlines earlier. Although the superintendent of police(SP) Pravin Pawar had assured a few weeks back that the issue would be sorted out amicably, nothing has happened in thawing of the situation. M B Nagaraj and Vishwanath Pandith are stuck with the same job and the government does not seem to be in a hurry to clear the air of uncertainty.

The issue turned chronic on Thursday September 25, when DysP M B Nagraj, who came to the office, found to his chagrin, that his office had been locked. It is learnt, that the SP had ordered his office to be locked. He was taken by surprise, but discharged his duties by remaining outside his room. He went to a nearby room and worked from there.

M B Nagaraj, the present incumbent and vishwanath Pandith, posted after being promoted to the post, are both clinging on to the same post. Pandith has claimed that he has reported for duties at the new place of posting. But, records have not been created to show that the charge of the office was handed over to him.

"I have not received any transfer orders out of Udupi, neither have I been relieved. Movement orders have not ben issued to me. I have approached Karnataka Administrative Tribunal against the action of Pandith in reporting for duties, at a time when I was away on office duties. The tribunal has asked me to continue to work here. Once its official order is received in a couple of days, eveything will fall into place," Nagaraj opined.

speaking to the media persons, Nagaraj gave vent to his anger by confessing that his vehicle had been withdrawn although he had not handed over charge of his office and that his pay had been withheld. Once the tribunal issues orders, the lock will have to be opened, failing which legal struggle will have to be taken. Although the home miniser says Pandith will continue in the post, the tribunal orders will be binding on everyone, Nagaraj said.

DysP Vishwanath Pandith claims that Nagaraj has not yet secured any favourable orders from the tribunal. The tribunal has merely sought some information from the government, he says.
