Mangalore, Sep 30: Speaking at the veledictory function of the inter-collegiate cultural festival titled 'Samskriti-08' held at SDM Law College in the city on Sunday September 28, encoounter specialist and Mumbai police officer Daya Nayak said, that the police department is strong and capable of protecting the interests of the country. "There is no need for any one to feel apprehensive," he stressed.

"It is true that the terrorists have succeeded in creating an environment of panic in the country at present. However, our security system is strong and disciplined. It is capable of facing any kind of terrorist acts and challenges," he added.

Speaking about his way of life and profession, Nayak said it is possible to reach one's goals through hard work and sincerety. He also requested the youth not to select wrong paths, and always aim at becoming good citizens and serving the country.

"Under the present law, only six to seven percent of the accused get punished while the rest go scot free. The students who are studying law now, should think over and ensure that proper ammendments are brought to the law to ensure that the guilty do not to walk free after committing crimes, he requested. Nayak also requested the advocates to stop the practice of supporting the terrorists for money and publicity.

State NRI unit vice president and MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, SDM College principal Dr B K Ravindra and State Minorities Commission ex-president Anwar Manippady participated as guests.

Panama Group managing director Vivek Raj distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. Students Council president Ajeya B, secretary Chaitanya V K, Srinidhi Hegde etc., were present.
