Mangalore, Oct 2: Miscreants damaged the glass of Blessed Joseph Vaz’s grotto located at Assaigoli, near Mangalore University on Thursday October 2.

The glass was shattered using the marble piece. Interestingly, the grotto is located close to the Konaje police station. The police rushed to the spot immediately after hearing the news and replaced the broken glass and covered up the entire matter within no time.

But as soon as the news spread across, large number of people gathered in front of the chapel of Blessed Joseph Vaz and demanded the police to arrest the miscreants at the earliest.

The police immediately convened a peace committee meeting in which the leaders of all the religions participated. The meeting arrived at the conclusion to maintain peace and harmony in the vicinity.

The last sentence of the report shows how matured and sinsible those people are. They are a model to those who do not allow the issue to die. Hats off to them.

The miscreants who do such acts derive some joy. May be they are from broken homes/without love and affection, born and brought up without inbibing any values in life.It is high time to catch them and send them for counselling so that our future generation will be responsible citizens of India. Let us keep politics and politicians far from these acts for once and do community work for betterment of own Indian people.

Once again this incident proves that the anti communal forces are in control of the situation and not the police! Instead of catching the culprits and bringing those who are involved to justice it is really strange that they call a peace committee meeting!! The work of the police is to see that no more attacks take place but this is a clear sign that law has no hold and these kinds of incidents will continue and the police will call the peace committee and the poor Christians who will ultimately have to pay the prize.

it seems to be a mischief played by local youth. I dont understand what fun they get but they definitely spoil the harmony of the civil socities. It is nothing but foolish act. Similarly, people also sending threatening mails and sms to political leaders and police. Strict punishment is required to stop them doing it again.

One cannot understand why this well known pilgrimage site belonging to the Catholics has not been provided with round-the-clock protection from attacks by Police personnel as it is the case with other places of prayer and worship.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for this. How can you blame VS Acharya or Sangh Parivar or for that matter any organization for this.

With the way things are happening in Mangalore for the past few days, its become a child's game for anyone who has a motorcycle and a couple of stones and who can wake up early in the morning. I am sorry, but thats what is happening these days

If this is the trend then there might be a total break down of the Law & Order machinery. Its high time that educated people from all communities STOP encouraging their people to seek refuge from religous - Political organizations. We MUST seperate religion from politics their JOB is to look after our Welfare AND NOT after our religious interests.

I think people have no better job to do, always waiting for the chance to trouble innocent people. Shame on miscreants and the people who support them. Thanks to the konnaje police for their great work to maintain the peace.

I totally agree with you Mr. Hegde. I am sorry to say you that, Its all the plan drafted with the agenda of the state government. Until Mr. Acharya holds the home ministry this will be continued same. Even after him also, same sangha parivar will continue to support these culprits and shelter them under their banner. You can easily estimate the plan as if you note that, last weeks peace committee banner for Eid was set to fire and the culprits ran out of their bikes and when followed them they found shelter in the premises of the Holy Temple. There is no difference in between the Hazrath Bal Darga or Lal Masjid where militants sheltered. Here these culprits take shelters in Temples.

Police can do everything trash harmless Christians, ladies in particular, break up a church because police are there to harm law abiding citizens not law breaking citizens. Bravo Mangalore Police you have proved it.

Its disturbing to note that that even after 15 days the government has not been able to control such attacks of miscreants and restore peace .The Police force needs to do a lot of answering. This government came in on assurances that all will be safe and every one will be part of the state's progress. I wonder, if the cops cannot arrest these culprits how will they be able to control crisis of a greater magnitude? How safe & secure will our Sons & daughters be walking on the streets when hooligans and ruffians are openly threatening people and spreading hate? How safe are our aged parents, homes, properties, place of worship with anti social elements roaming freely and our police force totally incompetent? With People being divided on communal lines and a majority of the people support such act...one thing is for sure the future of this state does'nt look bright.
