Beltangady: Two held for illegal transportation of beef, vehicle confiscated

Beltangady, Aug 22: Two persons were arrested, beef being transported by them was confiscated, and pick-up truck was seized by Dhamasthala police relating to transportation of beef without permission and other legal provisions, on Tuesday August 21.

Dharmasthala assistant police sub-inspector, Karunakar, was on duty at Chamadi check post on Tuesday when he stopped a new pick-up truck which was yet to be registered, at around 6 am. The vehicle was moving towards Ujire from the direction of Chikkamagaluru. Upon verification, he found that beef packed in fiber crates was loaded in the vehicle. When questioned, driver and his companion inside the vehicle said that the beef was being taken to Mangaluru from Belur. However, they did not possess any documents authorizing the transportation.

Therefore, the police took into custody driver of the vehicle, Samreez Bandyaru and his assistant, Insaf Bandaru. The beef and the vehicle in which the same was loaded were also confiscated by the police. The value of 800 kg beef loaded in the vehicle has been put at Rs 40,000 and the value of the vehicle is five lac rupees.

A case stands registered against the arrested accused in Dharmasthala police station. The arrested accused have been booked under different provisions of Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act.
