Riyadh, Nov 4: After a hot burning summer, winter is knocking at the doors of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, bringing with it unexpected, heavy, rainfall, in the capital city. There have also been reports of rain in other parts of the Kingdom, especially Hafer Al Batin, where rain caused massive disturbances and tight spots, as well as light rain in Dammam, and Al Hassa, which come under the purview of the Eastern Province.

The rains on Monday November 3, created havoc in the city with roads in most areas turning waterlogged. This caused traffic jams for hours together, stranding the commuters. The slippery roads have also caused a few accidents on the highways en route the international airport, Olaya, and other parts of Riyadh.

On the morning of Tuesday November 4, water was being pumped out by the municipality authorities, in an effort to clear the rainwater off the roads. The southern parts of the city, particularly Al-Suweidy district was the worst-affected and remained cut-off from other parts of the district and the city centre.

Despite all these problems, a few people were also found enjoying the cool, welcome, rains. Over the past couple of days, there was a pleasant breeze going around, which is considered to herald the arrival of winter in the country. If winter starts now, it would be considered premature.

nice to see the pics. we too looking forward here for rain. and about people's comments on rain in India- it depends how much we are receiving. in gulf it’s raining only for few days. so they like it to receive. and all are having their own vehicle, clean surroundings etc... but in India... friends we all know how they are struggling to get vehicle, reach their destiny, so long travelling also lightening and that is also for 5 to 6 months. so they are commenting like that. but actually they like the rain. We all like the rain. And obviously people are happy when they are having little. In India God is generous to shower his gift. - it applies for all always “ too much is ……. Anyways people of Saudi Arabia enjoy in rain.

I agree with what Mr. Lancelot mentioned. While I was vacationing in Mangalore during July, people were crying of no rain then when the rain started pouring the same people started cursing the rain. Attitude man attitude.

Come o people of Mangalore you need to learn about nature and let nature do it's job and dont curse. If the womens feel that their saree may get spoilt because of rain then please stay indoor. This applies for men with trousers.

One thing I noticed with Arabs, When it heavy rains they never critize nature, instead they say GOD bless with heavy rain. That's the way we have to learn. But in our native place we listen to people critizing Enchina Savooda Barsa, Kasselle Modem varshiq Pavoos maraya. Please change your attitude towards nature.

Rain is a real gift from God. Rain will make the deserts bloom. Rain will make the sand dunes green. Rain will help the Wadis of Arabia shine from east to west. Without any rain, more than 40 years ago, we produced grapes, dates, pomogranets, figs and vegetables in our backyard our simple home in Dammam. Today, with the rain we would have planned to create a small paddy field and produced Basmati rice! All that the Saudis have to be do is to allocate a few million riyals in their massive budget in order to provide better drainage system so that the rain water is properly channelled to large bayous or lakes and recycle the precious rain water for more vegetation for the people to enjoy. Please, God, help the world to get more rain.

Lets cry less and lets enjoy the gift from God so that our lakes, our rivers and our water wells are always filled with sufficient water. Lets also develop a umbrella manufacturing facility in the Kingdom.
