Bengaluru, Oct 11: The Election Commission has given its nod to the government's proposal to transfer primary and high school teachers working in government schools. It however, has asked the department of public instruction to issue transfer orders to the transferred teachers after the bypoll in respect of certain districts.

In view of the forthcoming by election for two assembly constituencies and three Lok Sabha seats in the state, the Election Commission has given effect to election code of conduct in Mysuru, Bagalkot, Mandya, Ramanagara, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Ballari and Udupi districts. In view of the prevalence of code of conduct, the commissioner in the department of public instruction had sought clarification from the commission whether the process of teachers transfers could be affected.

Chief election commissioner, Dr K G Jagadeesh, permitted the department to go ahead with the transfer process in districts where code of conduct is in force, as district level transfer of teachers is done through  online under the centralized system. It however added that the transferred teachers should not be relieved or report for work in the eight districts where code of conduct is in force, till the election process is concluded.
