Mangaluru, Nov 3: Students and staff of St Aloysius Higher Primary School recently bid farewell to their beloved teacher Joyce D’Silva after her 38 years of outstanding and selfless service. It was a combined celebration wherein they welcomed the new correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado SJ as well.
On behalf of the student body Gautham and Veekshitha spoke words of appreciation about Joyce D’Silva. Students offered flowers to the retiring teacher as a token of love and gratitude.
In his message the correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado SJ said, "A teacher not only teaches to read and write, but also to gain confidence." He thanked and wished Joyce D’Silva for all she did in the past 38 years. He also advised her to continue her fruitful work in future. He then addressed the students and spoke about basic aspects each one must have to acquire a beautiful personality namely reading, writing and working out simple arithmetic problems as this will not only help them in their all round development, but also help to flourish in high school. He stressed that a strong foundation can put up a super structure and requested them to imbibe the Jesuit qualities namely love, compassion and concern toward the poor and under privileged.
This was followed by reading of the citation by Liya D’Souza asst headmaster. The retiring teacher was then felicitated by all the dignitaries on the dais. The retiring teacher expressed her deep sentiments of gratitude for the opportunity to render fruitful years of service.
The rector Fr Dion Vaz SJ thanked Joyce D’Silva for her selfless service to the institution. He said, "Once an Aloysian, always an Aloysian." He also assured his support to the new correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado.
The headmistress Philomena Lewis, Liya D’Souza, PTA vice president Rekha Fernandes, SPL Alan Menezes and the ASPL Rishel Fernandes were present on the dais. The entire programme was compered by the students.
