Mumbai, Nov 25: The Sri Guru Naryana Literary and Yakshagana Kala Awards, instituted by Akshaya bulletin of the metro’s Billava Association , were conferred on veteran poet and critic Dr G V Kulkarni and veteran Yakshagana Bhagavat Polya Laxminarayan Shetty, respectively, on Saturday November 22.
Veteran litterateur and critic V Ga Nayak was the chief guest of the function, held at Sri Narayan Guru Auditorium of the association, at Santacruz (East). He also conferred the award on Dr Kulkarni.
Speaking on the occasion, Nayak said that Sri Narayan Guru’s ideals were truly followed by the Billava Association, which was a commendable feat. He congratulated the association for its yeomen service in the metro and added that the coveted awards conferred by it are secular in nature and lay stress on humanity.
Veteran litterateur Dr Taltaje Vasant Kumar conferred the award on Laxminarayan Shetty. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Taltaje said that the association is nurturing culture with total commitment. Billava Association president Jaya C Suvarna presided over the programme while Dr Sanjeev K Shetty delivered the congratulatory address.
Dr Puttaraj state award winner Veena Bhaskar Sarapady, Balraj Sahani award winner Latesh M Poojary, and Vishwanat Shetty Kaup, were also felicitated on the occasion.
Vasudev R Kotian, chief executive officer, Bharat Co-Operative Bank (Mumbai) Limited, Billava Association vice-presidents Y Ganesh and L V Amin, treasurer Bhaskar V Bangera, women’s division executive president Jayanti V Ullal and others were present on the dais.
M B Kukyan, honorary chief editor, ‘Akshaya’ bulletin, welcomed the gathering. C T Salian proposed the vote of thanks. Association honorary chief secretary Nityanand D Kotian, compered the programme.
