Beltangady, Dec 1: The allegation made in a letter addressed to the police and revenue officials that the body of a local person was buried when cutting down a tree at a site in Billarody in Ujire village has kicked up lot of curiosity.

The letter, written in the name of the citizens, accuses leader of a local organization and his supporters of involvement with this heinous act. The police however say that they have not received any missing complaint about a local referred in the said letter.

Copies of the letter, original of which was addressed to Beltangady police circle inspector, have also been sent to director general of police Karnataka, district superintendent of police, deputy superintendent of police, and tahsildar of this taluk, as per a mention made in the said letter.

Police circle inspector, Sandesh, said that the letter which was anonymous, has been received, but no missing complaint was received by the police. He said that a detailed investigation alone can bring out the truth behind the allegation.

A team from forest department was deputed to Ujire on Friday, as the letter received by them alleges about illegal timber stock there. Beltangady range forest officer, Subbayya, said that a local has obtained licence to cut down tree and that the team checked whether the stock held tallies with the licence terms. He added that if any excess is found, steps would be taken against the guilty.
