Mangaluru: Four arrested for trying to assault men accompanying girl in auto

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Barke police in the city have arrested four youths for allegedly trailing an auto rickshaw in their bikes, in which a young lady was travelling with two male companions, and stopping the auto rickshaw and trying to assault the men in auto rickshaw. This incident occured on the night of Friday, November 30 near Mannagudde - Lalbagh area in the city.

Dheeraj Shetty (20), Viraj Shetty (21), Shravan Alva (20), all residents of Pajeer and Kiran Shetty (20), resident of Varkadi in Kasaragod are the arrested accused. It is learnt that all the four are working in a mall in the city.

On the midnight of Friday, the accused bike-borne youths started chasing an auto rickshaw from the City Centre Mall in the city in which a young lady was travelling with two men. They waylaid the auto rickshaw near the MCC office at Lalbagh and asked the whereabouts of the passengers in the auto, abused them in vulgar language and tried to assault them. In the meantime, a vehicle arrived near the spot of argument and the miscreants escaped from the spot.

The passengers of the auto rickshaw, a young lady and two men, residents of Mumbai had come to Bajpe on the outskirts of the city to the house of their relatives. As the girl fell sick, the men had taken her to KMC hospital near Jyoti circle in the city and were travelling back to Bajpe after getting her treated. The bike-borne miscreants who mistook the presence of two males with a young lady followed the auto rickshaw and tried to threaten the passengers.

As the bike-borne miscreants tried to assault and escape, the passengers of the auto rickshaw noted down the registration number of the bike and informed the same to the Barke police. Umesh Uppalike, police inspector of Barke police station and lady sub-inspector Shobha and personnel quickly got into action and arrested the culprits. The arrested accused are produced to the court and remanded to judicial custody.
