Puttur: Recitation of the Rosary unites the family, says Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha

Puttur, Dec 4: As the year 2018, is dedicated to Rosary, St Paul Puttur Varado deanery level convention was held on Saturday December 1, 2018, at Mai De Deus church hall, here from 2.30 pm to 4 pm. On this great occasion the newly ordained Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha was felicitated at the deanery level.

Mother Mary is the gateway to heaven and role model as well as the mother of all humankind. With due respect and reverence, the statue of Mother Mary was brought to the honoured place in procession and the Bishop garlanded the statue followed by a short prayer service conducted by Fr John D’Souza, the parish priest of Nidpalli church. On behalf of the Deanery, Fr Alfred J Pinto welcomed the gathering. Through power point presentation, Inas Gonsalves, the varado vice-president, briefed the location and economic condition of 12 parishes of the deanery.



Students of St Victor’s English Medium primary school, through enacting a small Play and dance, gave an inspiring message about the importance of reciting the rosary during the family prayer. It was followed by the felicitation programme to the new Bishop.

As a resource person, Bishop addressed the gathering and highlighted the characteristics of Mother Mary, i.e., She remained very close to ‘Jesus’ from the time of his birth until his death on the cross. The Bishop, in his speech, insisted that we need to increase our devotion to Mother Mary and live an exemplary life.

In honour of Marian Convention and ‘Laudato si’ nature protection campaign, the Bishop distributed a sapling to the vice-presidents of 12 parishes of deanery. Vote of thanks was rendered by J P Rodrigues, the vice-president of Mai De Deus Church, Puttur. The ceremony was compered by Fr Peter Gonsalves. The programme ended with Refershment.
