Bantwal, Dec 4: In an incident which happened on the night of Monday, December 3, at Guddeangady near Melkar here, a woman who was waiting to cross the road was knocked down and killed by a private bus. The woman lost her life instantly.

The deceased woman has been identified as Ruksana (26), wife of Athaulla, a local. Ruksana had come out of her house to buy some items from a store. She was waiting with her husband and two children to go home, when a private bus moving to B C Road from the direction of Mudipu hit her. While Ruksana died on the spot, her husband and two children had safely crossed the road by then.

The driver and conductor of the bus fled from the scene. Locals who gathered at the spot of the accident grew angry and pelted stones at the bus, damaging it in the bargain. Traffic police who came to know about the incident, rushed to the spot, registered a case and took further steps.
