Bengaluru, Dec 4: Police shot a murder suspect in self-defence when the accused assaulted them in an attempt to escape.

Hennur inspector S P Kulkarni arrested suspect Abhishek (19) after shooting at him on Monday night, December 3.

The suspect has been admitted to Bowring hospital for treatment for injuries.

The case

Lorry driver Keshava was hacked to death on Friday night. A special team in the leadership of inspector Kulkarni was formed to nab the suspects. Police were on the lookout for Abhishek as they suspected his involvement in the murder.

The team had received definite information that the suspect was near Hennur rock on Monday night. When police staff Santhosh went to arrest Abhishek on the basis of the information, he assaulted the policeman with a knife.

Kulkarni initially shot in the air to threaten the suspect. But the suspect was not afraid and tried to assault Kulkarni. Therefore, Kulkarni shot the suspect on his leg. A case has been registered at Hennur police station. Police have continued investigation.
