Puttur Aquatic Club to host KSA short course championship from Dec 6 to 9

Puttur, Dec 5: Puttur Aquatic Club from December 6 to 9 will host the 19th Karnataka Swimming Association (KSA) short course championship for juniors and sub juniors at Dr Shivarama Karantha Balavana Swimming Pool, here. Along with the same meet, Karanataka's first ever senior short course championship will take place as well.

This is a historic moment for Puttur as the club is hosting the Karnataka Swimming Association short course meet for the first time in Dakshina Kannada. Puttur Aquatic club has achieved 1760 medals in the past 6 years. Among these, 1303 are district medals, 306 state medals, 149 national medals, 2 international medals, 5 state meet records, 2 national meet records.

Karnataka Swimming Association (KSA) is a member of Swimming Fedaration of India. KSA has over 60 swimming clubs registered under it with each swimming club training several swimmers. These swimmers are battling for the top rank in Karnataka in the championship hosted by KSA.

Over 700 swimmers between the ages of 9 to 13 in sub junior, 14 to 17 in junior and 18 and above in senior will be racing their hearts out trying to place the top rank in Karnataka which has some of the finest swimmers in the country. The event will spread over four days. Morning heats will start from 8.30 am and go till 2 pm where the top 8 swimmers from each event will be qualified according to their performance for the evening finals. These eight swimmers from each event will race again under floodlight from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. Top two from each event will be selected to represent Karnataka for the south zone aquatic championship.

Puttur Aquatic Club is hosting this championship with a huge responsibility on their shoulders carrying the message of importance of swimming as a lifeskill. With over 1000 people losing their life due to drowning in recent floods around us, it becomes our responsibility to promote learn to swim with the people around us and we hope this swimming championship Sparks the interest of swimming with people of Puttur and Dakshina Kannada. Like International Life Saving Society says 'if you do not want your child to drown- teach him to swim'.
