Mangaluru: National level interdisciplinary conference to be held at St Aloysius College

Mangaluru, Dec 14: The Physics department of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) on December 18 and 19 will organise a unique national level interdisciplinary conference on 'Physics of Living Matter and Medical Equipment'.

The conference will be inaugurated on December 18 at 9 am by Prof Sunil Kumar, director, IIT Palakkad. Fr Dionysius Vaz, SJ, rector, St Aloysius Institutions will preside over the function. There will be lectures by Prof Madan Rao of National Institute for Biological Studies (NCBS), Bengaluru, Prof Gautham Menon from the Institute of Mathematical Science, Chennai, Prof MRN Mutty from Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Bengaluru and Dr Ramgopal from Poorna Prajna Research Institute Bengaluru. They will deliver talks on the theoretical aspects of physics of living matter.

The second day will hold talks on the physics of medical equipments. This will include a talk on the topic 'Physics in Cardilogy' by Dr Manish Rai, 'Radio Physics in Imaging' by Dr Ashwini Kumar, 'Physics behind the Medical Equipments used by an Ophthalmologist' by Dr M S Ravi, 'Physics of ENT Care' by Dr Gautham Kulamarva, 'Physics of Interventional Radiology' by Dr Keertiraj, 'Functional Concepts of Dental Equipments' by Dr M S Ravi and Dr Jayatheertha will deliver a talk on 'Energy Sources in Surgery'. There will be a display of medical equipments on both the days.

The valedictory function will be held on December 19 at 4 pm. Dr Sadashiva Rao, pediatric surgeon will be the chief guest and Fr Leo D'Souza, director of Applied Biology will preside over the function.
