Mangalore, Dec 13: Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde urged the concerned to lay thrust on giving fillip to environmental consciousness among children. "This can play a stellar role in environmental conservation," he felt.
He was delivering the valedictory speech at the concluding function of the convention of eco club members organized at the open air theatre at Pilikula under the aegis of the KUIFC-KUDCEMP and Pilikula Regional Science Centre on Friday December 12.
"Corruption plays an important role in the destruction of environment. Because of corruption, various activities that are detrimental to environment are conducted," he reasoned.
District-in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar who was the chief guest, promised that the government will not allow projects that are anti-environment and that strict action will be initiated against such activities. MLA N Yogeesh Bhat who presided, opined that every one needs to surrender to the environment to ensure that life continues to exist on earth. "Conservation of environment is our bounden duty," he pointed out.
Deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, KUIDFC general manager Arifulla Shariff, BASF senior general manager P P Shetty and Pilikula Regional Science Centre director Dr K V Rao were present.
