Mangaluru: Father Muller School and College of Nursing holds lamp lighting, oath taking ceremony

Mangaluru, Dec 20: Lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony of Father Muller School and College of Nursing was held on December 19 at Father Muller Convention Centre.

A total of 156 nursing students lit their lamps and pledged before entering into their profession as a tribute to the nursing founder, Florence Nightingale, the lady with the lamp.

The programme commenced with an invocation dance followed by lamp lighting ceremony.

Jasmine Saritha Vas, principal, School of Nursing delivered the welcome note.

Sr Janet D’Souza, chief nursing officer spoke on the significance of the day.



As a mark of privilege and honour, the dignitaries offered flowers to the portraits of Florence Nightingale and Fr Augustus Muller, founder of Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The nursing leaders lit the lamps of the novice nursing students and passed on the light of wisdom, knowledge and compassion following which, they vowed to uphold their duties as nursing professionals, by swearing an oath, administered by the principal, FMCON, Sr Jacintha D'Souza.

Chief Guest, Prof Lakshmidevi N, principal Global College of Nursing Bengaluru and dean of Nursing, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences addressed the students and said, “Nurses involve in the profession of saving, healing and transforming lives. A nurse not only changes the patient’s state of health but also soothes an aching heart. A nurse carries a God-given gift that saves people’s lives and hence nursing is a great and noble profession. Discipline and time management help you in achieving greater heights. Always remain committed to your profession and learn to develop the nursing qualities."

Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director, FMCI presided over the programme and invited the students to be committed to their profession.

Prof Victoria D’Almeida, vice principal rendered the vote of thanks. Veena Melisha Fernandes and Laasya U B compered the programme. Fr Nelson Dheeraj Pais, asst administrator, FMMCH, Fr Felix Monteiro, spiritual guide, FMCI, staff, students and parents witnessed the event.
