Udupi, Dec 21: The creativity and innovative spirit displayed at district-level science exhibition and project competition, ‘Inspire Awards Manak 2018’, at St Cecily School campus, assures one of India’s bright future which lies in the hands of the younger generation.
About 225 ‘Inspire’ awarded students from 148 schools put up the expo, which was organised by Department of State Education Research and Training, Bengaluru, District Institute of Education and Training on Thursday, December 20.
Rajendra, vice president of taluk panchayat, Udupi in his inaugural address said, “Making India innovative is a dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He launched many programmes to promote innovations. Children are the future. Their contributions are immense. Let’s aim to be like scientist APJ Abdul Kalam. The district has given many scientists to the nation. Let today’s children make our district shine at national level. Let’s come up with even more innovative projects.”
Dinakar Babu, president of zilla panchayat was annoyed by the delay of formal inauguration programme of the exhibition. “Students are under stress. Inauguration, stage function is not always needed. With this, their concentration may get diverted or it may cause distraction to their mind. Teachers should not pressurize them. Let them be allowed to do whatever they want to. He wished all the participants to do their best.”
Sr Mayzi AC, joint secretary, St Cecily Group of Educational Institutions Udupi, Sr Preethi Crasta AC, headmistress, St Cecily High School, Prakash Shetty, Shobha Shetty, nodal officer and others were present.
Bhagyalakshmi, C B, president District Inspire Awards Manak Committee extended the welcome. Chandrashekhar, vice principal, St Cecily High School proposed vote of thanks.
The national level programme, “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)’ aims to attract talented young students to study science and pursue career in research. This programme is being implemented since 2009-10.”
The first component INSPIRE Award MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge) scheme, previously known as INSPIRE Award Scheme, is being implemented through State and UT governments.
There were 225 students from 148 schools selected from Udupi district for Inspire Awards. Out of them, 60 students will reach final (national level) after the filtration. They are from Karkala 69, Brahmavar 58, Kundapura-39, Byndoor 30, Udupi 29.
There were many innovative projects presented at the science exhibition.
Shashanth, eighth standard student, designed the wireless power transfer.
A student Saif M Ali, from MET school designed automatic street light system with the guidance of his parents. He spent two weeks for preparing the model. He says, the street lights will work on vehicle sensor. The system improves the safety for drivers, riders and pedestrians.
Srujan, student of 6th standard, designed gas leakage detector.
Another student Shreya designed lighthouse, which will save the electricity by its sensor mechanism.
Srujan designed the air purifier technique inside the room by using herbal fiber plants. He designed another air purifier mask. A small fan is fixed in front of mask, which will purify the contaminated air while driving.
There were many such creative projects showcased by students.
The five students were selected from Nirmala English Medium School for Inspire awards. The models are Hydroponics, Hydraulic city, wastewater management, automatic street lights system and automatic heater.
There were other projects displayed on Thermal Power Station Model, Coin Operated Milk Dispensing System Using IR Sensor, Avoiding Accidents on Curvy Roads, Monkey Scare Air Gun, Garbage and Waste Collection Bins Overflow Indicator, Hydraulic Vehicle Parking System and many more.
