Bangalore, Jan 31: If the assurance given by the state energy minister K S Eshwarappa is to be believed, the people of the state can hope to get through the summer season this year, without much of a suffering. He assured that during the summer months, load shedding would not be enforced even if the state faces power shortage. He added that the Tadadi Power Project would be given final touches after the Loksabha election by holding discussions with environmentalists and others who are opposed to the project.

"The state is presently using 122 million units of power. During the summer months, this is expected to reach 130 million units. The state is trying to keep pace with the demand by resorting to power purchase from various sources,” he explained.

"Our efforts to secure power from Chattisgarh state have borne fruits. Purchase price will be decided within a few days. The Bellary Thermal Power Plant has wriggled out of its teething problems. In Raichur, two units have restarted functioning after repairs," he said, adding that the government is spending Rs 400 crore for purchasing power from GMR Project, Jindal etc.
