Mangalore, Feb 2: The inaugural of the training programme for conductors, drivers, and cleaners, of city buses was held at the NGO hall on the taluk office premises on Saturday January 31.

The programme was organized by the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Krishna J Palemar, district in-charge minister, said that passengers are essential for transport employees to earn a livelihood. Hence, they should cultivate a bond of trust with the passengers, for their jobs to stay intact, he added.

The bus owners must not hire drivers to work on a commission basis because the drivers will then only aim at earning more and neglect the passengers’ safety, he said.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and private city buses are improving in providing qualitative service to the public in recent years, said Ramanath Rai, former transport minister, who was the chief guest.

MLA N Yogish Bhat, MLA U T Khadar, deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj, Afzal Ahmad Khan, regional transport officer, and Gracy B S, headmistress, St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, participated as the chief guests.

Palemar felicitated Dr Keshav Dharani, senior inspector, regional transport office, on behalf of the association.

A K Jayaram Shekha, president, Bus Owners’ Association, welcomed the gathering. Aziz Partipady, general secretary, delivered the introductory speech on the occasion.
