Mangaluru, Mar 5: A fire tragedy which happened at around midnight on Sunday March 3 gutted a tiled house located at Jappupatna in the city. This property belonged to a local identified as Ravi.

As the alert family members woke up in time, none of them faced any harm. The roof, wooden beams and pieces supporting the roof, clothes, furniture and other items inside the house were reduced into ashes in this fire. The family suffered an estimated loss of eight lac rupees.

As two fire tenders reached the spot in time and got busy with dousing the fire, they could stop the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and houses.

Santosh, his wife, and the couple's child were asleep when at around midnight they heard some sound emanating from a corner of the house. When they inspected, they found that a portion of their house had caught fire. They immediately alerted neighbours and informed the police and fire brigade.

Pandeshwar police, firemen and locals worked together to extinguish the fire. It is felt that electric short circuit would have caused this fire. Police are investigating.
