Mangalore, Feb 11: A ninth standard student standard committed suicide at her residence in Yelinje near Kinnigoli, on Wednesday February 11.

Aswini, daughter of Jaya Moolya, who hanged herself, was a student at Pompei High School in Aikala near Kinnigoli.

Her death is thought to have resulted following an incident that occurred on Tuesday February 10, which led to the registering of  a complaint in the police station.

Aswini had been to Moodbidri with her school mate Mahadevi. The  bus in which they were travelling, was waylaid at Maroor by a gang of  about a dozen men in a jeep.

They pulled out Saleem, the conductor of the bus, and cleaner Rafiq and beat them up. According to sources, they then summoned the police in Moodbidri.

Police sources said that the gang alleged that Saleem and Rafiq were involved in some illegal activity with the girl.

The parents of Aswini were then summoned by the police in this regard. However,  they decided not to  register a complaint, keeping her future in mind.

Sources informed that Saleem was warned by Bharathi, sub-inspector, Moodbidri police station, to refrain from such activities. A written bond was also taken by the police from Saleem.

However, Aswini is thought to have taken the extreme step as she was unable to bear the humiliation. Following the girl's death, Saleem has been arrested by Moodbidri police.

The thorough investigation of the case should be done. I have read the same news in local news paper today it says the bus conductor raped the girl thats why she had committed suicide. I have seen many of the bus conductors and agents using their proximity to the students to wrong side. A full post martem of the body should be done and the gang of people also should be summoned.

Why arrest Saleem ? Why not the gang members of the jeep ? Isn't it important to investigate if their allegations are true ? The girl ended her life for some reason ? If the men in the jeep had not caused the humiliation to her but let proper investigation to take place, the result could have been different. Please save our girls before many fall victims to moral policing.
