Udupi: Computerized Ration Cards to be Issued by Mar 5

Udupi, Feb 12: Dr V S Acharya, district in-charge minister, chaired the tri-monthly meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) held here on Wednesday February 11.

Addressing media persons at the deputy commissioner's (DC) office after attending the KDP meeting, Dr Acharya said that Rs 16 crore was being released for repairs to the national highways. He added that the state has no shortage of electricity and load-shedding will not take place.

Dr Acharya also informed that the work on Kalsanka Bridge will be undertaken within 15 days as also the broadening of Kadiyali–Manipal Road, for which tenders have been accepted.

He announced that computerized ration cards will be distributed to the citizens across the district from Wednesday February 25 to Thursday March 5. The state has 110 lac families, and ration cards were distributed to 75.66 lac families which accounts for nearly 75 percent of the total.

Dr Acharya talked of the Bramavar Sugar Factory and said that despite a  proposal to lease it to private operators, none seemed interested.

He has said that law enforcement agencies had been directed to take appropriate measures on the occasion of Valentine's Day on Saturday February 14, to prevent any untoward incidents.

Deputy commissioner Hemalata P, zilla panchayat president Raju Poojary, zilla panchayat CEO Prasanna Kumar, MLAs Lalaji R Mendon, Gopal Bhandary, and Pratapchandra Shetty, were present at the KDP meeting.
